Mr. Shigekane joined the firm in 1991 and concentrated his practice in the area of tort liability defense. He became a partner with CHONG, NISHIMOTO, SIA, NAKAMURA, & GOYA, LLLP, in 1996.
Education
Mr. Shigekane graduated in 1974 from the University of Hawaii, Manoa Campus, where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy and Psychology. He received his Juris Doctor degree from the Santa Clara University School of Law in December 1976 and was admitted to the Hawaii Bar in May 1977.
Experience
Upon admission to the Hawaii Bar, Mr. Shigekane worked briefly at the Kauai County Attorney’s Office, where he was responsible for its independent Family Support Division. In 1978, he joined the Office of Consumer Protection as a staff attorney. In 1980, Mr. Shigekane was appointed Deputy Attorney General and assigned to its Public Utilities Division.
During his tenure within the division, he was responsible for representing the State Consumer Advocate in all proceedings before the Public Utilities Commission, including all rate-increase requests filed by the water, gas, sewer, telephone, and electric utilities. In 1985, Mr. Shigekane joined the Litigation Division of the Department of the Attorney General in governmental defense and personal injury litigation.

Affiliations
Mr. Shigekane is a member of the Hawaii State Bar Association, is licensed to appear before the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, and is an arbitrator with the Court-Annexed Arbitration Program, First Judicial Circuit, State of Hawaii.
